About the Event

In this session, Dr. Bethany Calabrese will share her expertise on spinal cord injury syndromes and the management of complications related to SCI including neurogenic bladder and bowel. Participants will walk away with an overview of patient transition from the rehabilitation unit back to the community and continued recommendations for follow up care for those impacted by spinal cord injuries.


This session will empower claims adjusters, claims managers, employers, and industry stakeholders with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the rehabilitation of individuals facing spinal cord injuries.

Meet the Presenter Dr. Bethany Calabrese, D.O.

Acute Spinal Cord Injury Management on the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit​

Dr. Bethany A. Calabrese is a distinguished physician in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, currently serving as an Attending Physician at Pioneer Spine and Sports Physicians, where she specializes in managing spine and sports injuries, interventional pain management, and a variety of rehabilitation treatments. Since July 2021, she is board-certified in her field, emphasizing minimally invasive procedures for optimal patient recovery. Additionally, Dr. Calabrese holds a vital role as the Medical Director of the Mercy Medical Center Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, overseeing patient care, therapy services, and medical education on new systems.

 

Her educational foundation is robust, with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she graduated with honors. She further honed her skills and leadership during her residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University, culminating in her role as Chief Resident. Her commitment to the field is evident through her active participation in research, contributing findings on rehabilitation and pain management techniques at various national conferences.

 

Beyond her professional responsibilities, Dr. Calabrese is deeply involved in community service. She is a founding committee member of Lisa’s Light of Hope Foundation, focusing on eating disorder awareness and treatment. She also shares her knowledge and experience by volunteering to educate future medical professionals and participating in student workshops.
